Our Story

About Us
At Climate Information Watch (CIW), our mission is to advance climate-informed decision-making on a global scale and deter climate disinformation and misinformation implemented by various public and private actors. Behind this initiative is a team of young media and communications professionals from diverse global backgrounds, including Serbia, Sweden, Brazil, Romania, Finland, and Georgia, committed to creating a more informed, just and sustainable world for both current and future generations.
CIW works to empower citizens in the decision-making process by promoting media literacy, digital literacy, and open source intelligence tools. Through these efforts, we help people think critically about climate action, offer valuable insights into the strategies employed by sources promoting disinformation, and put climate disinformation campaigns into context.
We do not resort to strategic framing to serve any agenda. Amid the growing wave of misinformation and disinformation, we want citizens to actively engage in climate discourse and understand how these narratives directly impact their lives. In essence, CIW supports you to make the best choices for yourself and the future of our irreplaceable planet.
At CIW, we bring together a multicultural and diverse team that advocates for informed and ethical decision-making process, climate justice, resilient digital spaces and social justice.
The idea for CIW was first envisioned in September 2024 by our founder, Andjelija, driven by a strong passion for public service, sustainability, and digital resilience. Observing critical global challenges, such as the climate crisis and the rise of disinformation, particularly climate denialism, along with the growing unchecked influence of self- or semi-regulated mechanisms within Big Tech, Andjelija recognized how these issues obstruct informed decision-making for citizens worldwide. In response, the founder aimed to create a meaningful solution that would contribute to mitigating climate-related disinformation efforts driven by both public and private actors, with a deep belief in the value of public service, education and decentralised verification, putting power in the hands of citizens rather than acting as a centralised fact-checking source or strategically framing an issue.
March 2025 marked the beginning of the CIW mission to empower citizens in the decision-making process with the launch of our website. As we move forward, CIW remains committed to developing news solutions that foster informed climate decisions aligned with environmental and social well-being.
Climate Information Watch is a global and diverse initiative, acknowledging that both climate change and climate disinformation are universal challenges. Our team consists of JMK alumni (JMK, Media Department), who bring knowledge, cosmopolitan ethos and public service values from the Media Studies program at Stockholm University (SU), as well as experience from different media outlets and institutes.
In our community of volunteers, we are surrounded by individuals from various backgrounds, who are inspired by the creation of a cosmopolitan and non-aligned approach, bringing unique voices and a vibrant desire for change to CIW.
Hope is vital, but it’s not enough, we need action. That’s why we dedicate every spare moment, amid our full-time jobs, studies, relationships, and families, to volunteer our skills, knowledge and experience assisting citizens across the world.
We are a youth-led, non-political, and non-aligned nonprofit organization, driven by a cosmopolitan ethos.
